Shaping Tasmania
I love the new AFL Tasmania Devils guernsey (as a Hawks supporter, that is hard to say, but there you have it), but as a cartographer, one thing bothers me: I think the map of Tasmania on the front is a bit too coarse, featuring only 23 vertices. I might be entirely alone, which is not uncommon! To test that theory, I built this app to explore a few alternative shapes. Have a play and let me know what you think by submitting your preferred map design. Perhaps you love the current shape; if so, then simply choose to 'keep the jumper as is'.

This app uses the Visvalingam–Whyatt algorithm to simplify Tasmania's coastline. It repeatedly removes whichever point makes the least visual difference to the shape — the one that shaves off the smallest triangular area with its neighbours — so headlands and bays survive as long as possible as the detail decreases.
